Sara works with children, adolescents, and young adults for individual and group therapy. She also provides family therapy and parental guidance. She uses an eclectic mix of evidence based therapeutic approaches to create a safe and supportive environment and a strong collaborative therapeutic relationship. By using a strength based and trauma informed framework, Sara empowers her clients to actively work towards treatment goals.
Sara earned her master’s degree from Boston University’s Graduate School of Social Work in 2011 with a specialization in Trauma and Group Work. Prior to joining Birch Hill Behavioral Health, Sara worked as the Clinical Youth Specialist for the City of Somerville’s Health and Human Service Department. In this role she provided a variety of services to young people in the community including supportive counseling, school consultation and advocacy, connection to resources, and ran a variety of support groups for youth and adults. Sara also led the Somerville Trauma Response Network, a group that provide postvention support following community trauma.
She also worked at the Germaine Lawrence Residential Campus of Youth Villages providing individual, family and group therapy. In addition to her clinical work, Sara has been a guest lecturer and teaching fellow at the Harvard University Graduate School of Education for the last 7 years. She has provided clinical supervision to those pursuing independent licensure and consultation to many community-based organizations. She is a trainer in Youth Mental Health First Aid and is trained in Psychological First Aid and Post Traumatic Stress Management.
