FAQs

What can I expect in a consultation call or first meeting?

You will meet with one of our skilled therapists to discuss what has prompted you to seek treatment, the history of your symptoms, your hopes for any therapeutic work, and your schedule. We will provide you with information about initial recommendations around an appropriate treatment approach, BHBH therapist to work with, and answer any questions you may have.

How do I know which type of therapeutic approach would be most effective for me?

Some people who come to us have an idea of what they’re looking for, and others are hoping for some guidance. At the initial appointment we will hope to hear about your specific set of hopes and goals for therapy so that we can work collaboratively with you in making our recommendations around what treatment approach might be most effective.

Do you offer Telehealth (Video) Sessions?

Yes, we offer both in-person and Telehealth (video) sessions. We love the flexibility this offers our patients! Please note: Individuals must be in Massachusetts in order to be seen for their visits, as in accordance with State/Licensing regulations.

I have other providers on my treatment team. How do you collaborate with other team members?

BHBH therapists value collaborative care. Research demonstrates that individuals have better treatment experiences and outcomes when their treatment providers communicate and work together. Upon the intake we will gather information about any current treatment team members and with appropriate consent we will reach out to each team member. We will remain in touch with them at the duration and frequency that is clinically appropriate. Additionally, you can request that we make or discontinue contact at any time.

How often can I, as a parent, expect to be in touch with my teen/child’s BHBH therapist?

This frequency is dependent on the age of the client, and the clinical needs and/or treatment approach being used. This topic will be part of a discussion at the onset of treatment so that all parties know what to expect. There are times when parents might be asked to join the end of sessions regularly, and for other clients, the clinician may recommend that contact with parents happen outside of the regularly scheduled meetings. If for whatever reason, you ever feel like you want additional contact (once or regularly) please discuss directly with your BHBH therapist.

Can I request a specific BHBH therapist?

Yes, and if that therapist does not have availability you will have the choice of either being added to a waitlist or working with another skilled BHBH therapist. If you are interested in this, please include your preferred therapist’s name in your initial contact.

Do you take insurance? What are the costs of care?

No, we do not accept insurance directly. We are a private-pay group practice. However, we do offer a Superbill (detailed receipt) at the end of each month via your secure portal to submit to your insurance for reimbursement if you have an out-of-network (OON) benefit.

Individual therapy visits range in cost from $180-$250 per 50 minute session. Session fee is determined by multiple variables including credentials and experience of the therapist, as well as the type/mode of treatment. Group sessions range from $80-$120 per 60 minute group.

Is using my insurance right for me?

You will get all the information necessary to make a choice appropriate for you and your family’s financial needs by calling your insurance company to discuss options for out-of-network reimbursement. Please be in touch with our administrative assistant if you would like any guidance around navigating this.

Do you offer payment plans?

If you would like to explore specific options for payment plans, please request to discuss with one of the Co-Founders through our contact form.

We are able to offer a limited number of fee-adjusted/“sliding scale” slots. To learn more about this and our application process, please inquire with us at Admin@BirchHillBH.com

What if I need to miss or cancel my appointment?

Please contact your therapist directly as soon as you are aware of an upcoming absence. We’re often able to be flexible with scheduling if given appropriate notice, and our cancellation policy asks that you give us 48 hrs notice to avoid a missed session/late cancellation fee.
