Dr. Rajala is passionate about working with patients across the lifespan to address a wide range of behavioral health concerns (mental health, substance use, and physical health conditions). She is particularly interested in treating physical health conditions through psychological interventions including chronic pain and medically unexplained physical symptoms. She takes a collaborative and integrative approach to treatment, implementing evidence-based interventions (CBT, DBT, ACT-informed) that align with an individual’s presentation, background/culture, and spiritual beliefs about what will help, and readiness for change. She believes in the importance of a genuine, non-judgmental treatment relationship and an individual’s as a source of healing. She provides individual therapy, parent guidance, consultation and supervision.
Dr. Rajala graduated cum laude from The College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. She went on to earn her Doctoral Degree in Clinical Psychology, from William James College, with a concentration in health psychology. Throughout her pre-licensure training she developed a niche for primary care behavioral health integration and received specialized training in mindfulness interventions, biofeedback, clinical hypnosis, behavioral pediatrics, and culturally-rooted psychological interventions from Boston Behavioral Medicine, the University of Nebraska Medical Center and I Ola Lāhui.
Dr. Rajala has over 10 years’ experience working in integrated primary care behavioral health across the country, including working as the Behavioral Health Director at Charles River Community Health, a Psychotherapist at the Hawaii Island Family Health Center, Wiamanalo Health Center and the Kearney and Grand Island Clinicians. Throughout these experiences and in collaborating with interdisciplinary teams, Dr. Rajala has gained substantial experience working within the intersections of physical and behavioral medicine. In addition to her clinical practice, Dr. Rajala has served as a clinical supervisor, a guest-lecturer and has provided expert consultation on areas of specialty.
