Ekta Taneja, MD is a Harvard-Trained, Board-Certified, Adult (18+) Psychiatrist with Kahani Psychiatry, PLLC. She partners with Birch Hill Behavioral Health as an Affiliated Psychiatrist, providing expert behavioral health evaluations, consultation on many presenting concerns, medication management, and psychotherapy. Birch Hill is thrilled to have Dr Taneja with us and offering her specialty services to BHBH's patients and families.

Dr. Taneja works with adults to provide culturally informed, evidence-based, whole-person mental health care for a wide variety of concerns. She listens with compassion and empathy, with an ear to an individual’s strengths, vulnerabilities, and resilience. On a personal level, Dr. Taneja is a child of immigrants and a person of color. She brings these identities into providing culturally informed care, with a collaborative and authentic approach. She values, at her core, the therapeutic relationship, and nurtures a warm, supportive, nonjudgmental space for individuals to share their stories.

Dr. Taneja earned her medical degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine. She completed her adult psychiatry residency training at the Cambridge Health Alliance (CHA) / Harvard Medical School (HMS), where she received extensive training in psychopharmacology and numerous psychotherapy modalities, and also served as Chief Resident in community psychiatry. Dr. Taneja stayed on at CHA as a staff psychiatrist in the Primary Care Behavioral Health Integration clinic, where she was an outpatient psychiatric consultant embedded in multiple primary care clinics within CHA. In this role, she developed diagnostic expertise across a broad spectrum of psychiatric issues, and built strong relationships with her primary care and behavioral health colleagues.

Dr. Taneja supervised residents in her clinic for several years. She also served as the Associate Training Director, and then the Interim Training Director, for the Cambridge Health Alliance / Harvard Medical School adult psychiatry residency program, fostering residents’ growth across their full developmental trajectory. She moved to full-time private practice in 2023.

In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Taneja has an array of academic interests. She has administered workshops in areas of diversity, equity, and inclusion, and been a guest-lecturer in areas of specialty. During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, she ran COVID-19 support and psychoeducation groups for frontline medical trainees experiencing stress, trauma, and grief.
